Case Study - IP Office

Burgess Farm Industries - VoIP Solution

"Believe it or not, IP Office ltd were the only company in the country to have suggested and then delivered on a very innovative solution to a very sticky problem we found ourselves faced with"

Malcolm Furgeson, Facilities Manager Burgess Industries

Burgess Farm Industries opened a new centrally located distribution centre and warehouse in rural Farnborough, Hampshire to supply agricultural machinery and parts to the company's more than 70 retail locations, and it quickly became clear that delivering voice and data communications to the site would be a challenge. The nearest exchange was 20 kilometres away, and installing ISDN lines would be both costly and time-consuming.

The solution - Installation of a VoIP enabled Avaya IP Office. Providing VoIP meant that a single, existing analogue line could deliver 8 simultaneous voice calls, thus negating the need for costly ISDN circuits, state-of-the-art communications to employees whether they are in the office or on the road.

Avaya IP Office, a secure, intelligent and easy-to-use converged voice and data system for small and medium businesses. IP Office offers a variety of network connectivity options, works as a traditional phone system or an IP telephony server, and supports both single locations and multi-site networks. IP Office has sold more than 80,000 systems to customers worldwide.

IP Office Ltd recommended private access DSL (PaDSL), a cost-effective alternative to traditional Analogue, ISDN and leased line circuits. PaDSL links private broadband connections (MPLS) to existing analogue lines, enabling businesses and organisations to use DSL for wide area network and virtual private network communication, without using the public Internet as the access medium. As a result, Burgess has been able to use an existing analogue line on the property where its new centre is located to achieve voice over IP capabilities through IP Office over a DSL network.

"If we had installed traditional lines, it would have taken us much longer to get up and running with a new system - if we'd been able to afford one at all - and it might have also cut deeply into our annual profits," said Sarah Williamson, marketing manager at Burgess Farm Industries. "IP Office has provided the perfect solution."
